The Senate passed this bill to extend unemployment benefits through November 30, making the extension retroactive to June 2 when the last extension expired. Because it was amended by the Senate, it was sent back to the House for final approval.
The Senate rejected the House’s amendment to this legislation funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and providing for additional funding for foreign aid and disaster assistance. The amendment would have added $22.8 billion in additional domestic spending. The House is expected to approve the bill without the amendment.

I’m really skeptical that God communicates with people telling them to run for election to some political office.

But then God has never spoken to me about the subject.

Sharron Angle has said that God called her to run against Harry Reid she told the Christian Broadcasting Network in an interview. [Las Vegas Sun] She goes on to explain “there is a preparation” time. [Las Vegas Sun] She explains that Moses, Paul and even Jesus had their times of preparation.

Sharron indicates her preparation time began on a Nye County school board. I have no idea how serving on a school board prepares one to be a Senator in Congress.

But I have to hand it to Ms. Angle. She seems to be dedicated and tenacious in her run for the Senate. I actually met her once. She was seeking votes at Petrack Park in Pahrump a few years ago during a Fall Festival event. She came up to me with that wonderful smile of hers, introduced herself and asked for my vote and support in whatever office she was running for at that time. She was gracious, polite and frankly likeable. I explained to her I was a Democrat and she shouldn’t expect my vote. Seeing that I was a lost cause she moved onto others in the Park.

She seems like a nice person. I admire her for her seemingly tireless effort to get elected to something. We just see the world through two different sets of eyes. She is reportedly a Southern Baptist. So am I. But we certainly see things differently.

I don’t think Ms. Angle has a frog hair’s chance of beating Harry Reid but it doesn’t seem to dampen her spirits in trying. But I think, in reality, she is a bit delusional in thinking she actually has a chance to unseat Senator Reid.

Confusing politics with religious beliefs is not uncommon. But they are two different things.

Jon Ralston says Sharron is falling behind Harry in the polls. He is leading her 44-37. [Las Vegas Sun] In fact Ralston declares Angles’ campaign as “dead.”

Nevada will receive $102.8 million as part of a program to help residents who are trying to avoid foreclosure on their homes.

Nevada is among five states that will receive funds from the program, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Nevada will receive the largest amount per resident.

Think Sharron Angle could pull this off for Nevada? Fat chance.

“I’ve been working hard to help stabilize Nevada’s housing market and provide resources for Nevadans who are struggling to keep their homes,” Reid said in a prepared statement this morning. “I told President Obama and Secretaries Donovan and Geithner that Nevada needs help and I thank them for responding. Now it’s up to banks and credit unions to step up to the plate so that this $100 million will have the maximum benefit for homeowners to reduce principal amounts and provide lien relief.”

The $102.8 million for Nevada is set to be used in this way:

· Nevada will create a mortgage modification program using a combination of forgiveness and forbearance with a goal of reducing principal to less than 115 percent of loan-to-value and lowering payments to 31 percent of debt-to-income.

· The state will also offer assistance to reduce/eliminate second liens with earned forgiveness over a three-year term.

· The state will provide allowances for appraisal and transaction fees, moving fees, a legal allowance for up to three months, and a combination of incentives for borrowers and servicers to facilitate short sales.

Senator Harry Reid

Now, as Senator Reid points out,

“Now it’s up to banks and credit unions to step up to the plate so that this $100 million will have the maximum benefit for homeowners to reduce principal amounts and provide lien relief.”

“Among those who qualify for this help are borrowers who are unemployed, homeowners who are underwater on their mortgages and Nevadans struggling with second liens,” Rep. Shelley Berkley said in a statement. Rep. Dina Titus called it “a critical step forward that will make much-needed funds available to help families stay in their homes.”

Mrs. Angle might want to do that, but she’s still young, healthy and active. My wife and I are 77, old, and getting less active by the day. Lord, she sounds as bad as George Bush.

She may be a conservative Tea Bagger but fiddling around with Social Security and Medicare, which works for me and my wife, just isn’t going to get it, irrespective of what she wants to do.

My comment to those of you who are Republican or Libertarian or Tea Baggers is simple. Do you think you want to give up your Social Security and Medicare just so Mrs. Angle can get elected? Think about it. You’ll be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

She told Jon Ralston on Face to Face “We need to phase Social Security and Medicare out in favor of something privatized. We know the government never gives…Don’t fix it…It can’t be fixed. It’s broken.”

Had Bush been successful in privatizing Social Security us old folks would most likely been out in the streets looking for a soup kitchen when the market bottom fell out recently.
