Cindy Trigg ends her campaign for Congress

CARSON CITY, Nev.—Cindy Trigg, an early announced contender against Republican Rep. Dean Heller for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional seat, ended her campaign Tuesday three months after it began.

Trigg, 54, of Zephyr Cove, alerted supporters to her decision in an e-mail.

“As of today, I am ending my campaign for Congress,” Trigg wrote. “This decision came after a sudden series of unforeseen professional obligations that required and will continue to require more of my attention than a campaign for Congress will allow.”

Trigg, president of the Douglas County school board, told The Associated Press she realized she could not embark on both endeavors and do them well.

“It just became very obvious that I needed to spend more time raising money than my school board issues allow, and I had to make a decision,” she said by phone.

“I underestimated the time that it was going to take.”

Federal Election Commission records show Trigg raised $8,700 and had $3,300 on hand as of June 30.

Douglas County Democratic Party spokesman Paul Belt said Trigg’s withdrawal came as a surprise.

“A lot of people are disappointed,” he said.

He said he hadn’t spoken with Trigg but was contacted by her campaign to distribute her statement.

Heller won his second term to the largely Republican district in November, beating two-time Democratic challenger Jill Derby.

Campaign finance reports show he raised $166,442 last quarter, bringing his cycle total to $264,790. Heller reported having $255,000 cash on hand. He’s the first choice of national Republicans to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the 2010 elections.

The Las Vegas Sun is reporting that Republican Dean Heller is giving strong hints he will not run against Senator Harry Reid in 2010. [Las Vegas Sun]

It is now being speculated that he might run for Governor of Nevada.

It is unclear how much Heller likes Washington. His wife and children have moved back West after a stint in D.C. Heller told the Sun last year that he sleeps on a cot in his office, which is a badge of honor among some Republican members but also might indicate he is not enamored of Washington.

If Heller decides to run for Governor that will open up his Congressional seat for either Cindy Trigg or Paul Reeves, both Democrats, both currently running to become the Democratic Party’s nominee to run for it.

Trigg and Reeves will be appearing for a campaign event in Pahrump, Nevada on Monday, August 3 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Honeysuckle Park. They will each give their campaign speeches and take follow-up questions from Erin Neff, former columnist with the Las Vegas Sun and currently author of Progress Now Nevada.

Cindy Olivas Trigg, a Democratic candidate seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination to oppose Republican incumbent, Dean Heller, in the 2010 general election now has a blog site.

Titled The Trigg Report – News for Nevadans the blog will be of assistance to all in acquainting readers just who Cindy Trigg is and what she intends to do if elected.

Mrs. Trigg has an opponent in the primary phase of the election process named Paul Reeves, also a Democrat who lives in Pahrump, Nye County, Nevada.

Unless a third Democratic candidate jumps in the race either Mrs. Trigg or Mr. Reeves will run against Dean Heller.

If you don’t already know Mrs. Trigg and Mr. Reeves are scheduled to engage in a debate on August 3, 2009 in Honeysuckle Park, Pahrump from 7-9 p.m. The debate is hosted by the Pahrump Chapter of Democracy for America. The Pahrump Chapter of Democracy for America is an organization of active Democrats.

This organization is working to prepare a program called the Trigg – Reeves Debate to be presented at Honeysuckle Park, in Pahrump, Nevada on August 3, 2009 from 7-9:00 p.m.

Cindy Trigg and Paul Reeves are seeking to win the election next summer for the honor of representing the Nevada State Democratic Party in the 2010 general election for the U.S. House of Representatives representing Congressional District #2.

The current incumbent of the office is Republican, Dean Heller.

The appearance of Trigg and Reeves will be the first political debate in their race for election. Pahrump will be the first audience of voters with an opportunity to see, hear and meet each of the candidates. The Pahrump Chapter of Democracy for American is hosting the event.

Erin Neff, former reporter and blogger of Progress Now Nevada with the Las Vegas will be the panelist questioning the candidates following their presentations.

In order to secure use of Honeysuckle Park the Chapter must pay a total of $800 to the Town of Pahrump. The Town requires a $300 cleanup fee and $500,000 liability insurance indemnifying the Town for any damage or bodily injury which could arise. The insurance cost for the two hour event costs $500.

None of the members of the Pahrump Chapter are wealthy or capable of paying the $800. Cindy Trigg votes to increase length of student drug testing

Cindy Trigg, a member of the Douglas County School Board, joined in a unanimous vote of the school board to implement a full calendar-year drug testing program rather than a seasonal one.

The change in the policy is venturing into a gray legal area, Assistant Superintendent Nancy Bryant told board members. The U.S. Supreme Court has only ruled on the constitutionality of testing students while they’re engaged in extracurricular activities. [Record Courier]

Trigg is a candidate for election to Nevada’s Congressional District #2 in the United States Congress. She is competing for the election with Nye County Democrat Paul Reeves of Pahrump.

Cindy Trigg to visit Nye County Democratic Central Committee

Cindy Trigg, Democratic Candidate for Nevada's Congressional District #2

Just received word that Cindy Trigg is scheduled to attend the Nye County Democratic Central Committee in June. She informs me she has it scheduled in her campaign for June 22, 2009. Unless the Central Committee has changed the monthly meeting schedule the Central Committee would normally meet on June 29 not the 22nd.

In any event, the visit to Pahrump will be, to my knowledge, her first appearance since announcing her candidacy for election to the the United States House of Representatives for Nevada’s Congressional District #2.

Cindy will be competing to be the Democratic Party’s nominee in the general election with Paul Reeves, a Pahrump resident.

So, if you are a Democrat and would like to meet Mrs. Trigg, you should mark your calendars to attend the Central Committee meeting in June after verifying the correct meeting date.
