Sharron Angle thinks government entitlement programs (are) built to make government our God.
Anjeanette Damon of the Las Vegas Sun concludes that Ms. Angle is a Christian Reconstuctionalist who believes Social Security benefits, education policy or property taxes — turns government into a false idol.
Little difficult for me to think of government as an idol. But different strokes for different folks.
And these programs that you mentioned — that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward — are all entitlement programs built to make government our God,
she said told a TruNews interviewer. And that’s really what’s happening in this country, is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We’re supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government.
This mixing of religious beliefs and government is really troubling. It is perfectly fine for Mrs. Angle to hold whatever religious beliefs she has. But it is not acceptable to impose those beliefs on me or anyone else.
I heard Angle say on TV that God began preparing her to run against Harry Reid way back when she was serving on a school board. Somehow she seems to believe she is a modern day Moses that has been tasked by God Himself to lead us all out of bondage to the United States government.
As for me I spent my entire working life paying into Social Security with the understanding it would become an integral part of my retirement income. I went to college on the GI Bill—I could never have afforded it on my own. My wife and I purchased our first home via the GI Bill.
But I have never in my wildest dreams ever thought of government as being an idol.
Makes me wonder how the Republican Party chose Mrs. Angle to run for the United States Senate. Mrs. Angle seems to be two bricks short of a full load.
