Abby Sunderland, a 16-year-old Thousand Oaks, California girl is awaiting rescue in the Indian Ocean aboard her storm-damaged yacht. The yacht is upright and is not taking on water.
An Australian aircraft has been in radio contact with her. She is apparently in good condition and is awaiting their arrival around midnight tonight Pacific Time.
She was attempting a solo trek around the world. She ran into rough seas between Africa and Australia. The yacht’s mast was broken.
She told people on the aircraft she had two weeks of food aboard. [MSNBC]
Her family in Thousand Oaks is relieved Abby has been found.
