Apple surpasses Microsoft

Apple becomes world’s most valuable technology company

So says the New York Times. The Times calls it “one of the most stunning turnarounds in business history for Apple, which had been given up for dead only a decade earlier…”

Shift in culture

The rapidly rising value attached to Apple by investors also heralds an important cultural shift: Consumer tastes have overtaken the needs of business as the leading force shaping technology.

Back in the 1980s when I got my first computer it was an Apple /// with a dot matrix printer. I was one of those Apple devotees. I recall trying to learn how to insert printer codes into the text I would write back then so that it would print out properly formatted.

The picture of the Apple /// is shown above. Looks just like my setup in the 80’s.

I finally gave up on Apple and went for the pc because that was the system that software was being written for, not Apple.

And Steve Jobs did it with iPods, iPhones and iPads, not computers at all.

My, how times have changed. The word blog didn’t exist in the 1980s. The past 30 years in the evolution of computer technology has been an exhilarating and wonderful ride.
