Butch Borasky, current Nye County Commissioner for District 4, has begun his re-election campaign. His opponents are Donna C. Cox, Sandra D. Darby, and Carl Moore. All are Republican candidates except Darby who is a Libertarian.
Mr. Borasky held his first meet-and-greet last week. He seeks his second term. He has more to achieve he indicated. He hopes to hold the line on taxes, lower building department fees by 10% and wants a one-year moratorium on impact fees. He feels that will help the county’s poor economic condition.
Will it help jump start our economy? Will it get houses built? Will it get businesses that say we aren’t business friendly to come in and say ‘okay we’ll build’? If not we can put that back in easily. Impact fees are quite important, I know that, I understand that, but right now I think that maybe we need to do something to kick ourselves in the pants to get moving.
He is trying to get appropriations from Washington D.C. to build a larger senior center along with a homeless shelter in Pahrump.
The homeless shelter, to me, is very important. We’ve got too many people that are living in the street right now, and in the desert, wherever they can find. We have to, as a community, hold our arms out and take care of those people.
Borasky eyes Utilities, Inc. calling the company a “plague” on the community.
We need to find a way to buy those people out, get them out of our community, plain and simple. They’re just a repetition of the Preferred Equities action that raped this valley over and over again. They’re doing the same thing by increasing their rates three years ago and now coming back and asking for money they don’t deserve.
As to the Federal Detention Center he feels it was going “a long way to keeping the town afloat.”
That’s one of the few things we’ve got going in our town right now. It’s an $8 million project just for the pipes, just to expand the sewer and water to that detention center. That’s keeping this community alive right now, along with the building of that facility.
Two groups, Recalls-R-Us and Concerned Citizens for a Safe Community (CCSC) sought to recall Mr. Borasky for helping bring the detention center to Pahrump. The recall effort failed.
They (the Detention Center) will be a good neighbor and they’re going to provide over $10 million a year in payroll to the people who work there. People may say that they’re going to come from Las Vegas, but don’t believe that. There are plenty of talented people in this community right now that want a job.”
I live in District 4. I met Butch some six years ago when we moved to Pahrump. He set up our house in which we live. He is an honest, hardworking man. I like him. I will vote for him this election. I voted for him when he first ran for office. I have not regretted doing so.

I would like to know your stand on incorporation?
I would like to know why you feel the need to reject the offer that was made by you and the other Commissioners on our contract? I personally rejected your offer ( It was horrible) but it past anyway. I would also like to know why you feel Law Enforcement does not matter to you in this town? I would like to let you know that I will be telling everyone I know “NOT” to vote for you…
Tom, your comment may have been mistakenly posted here. I am not a member of the Nye County Board of Commissioners. I just blog.
