The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is preparing to capture more wild horses starting March 15 along Highway 93 in Nevada. The 50 or so horses strayed from their assigned herd areas.
The horses are in more dangerous territory where they now are, north of Pioche, Nevada. At least three have been hit by vehicles on the highway.
BLM’s “gathering” of wild horses is controversial. Critics have displayed video footage of BLM workers kicking burros in the head.
BLM is charged by the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act to “protect, manage and control wild horses and burros” to ensure they thrive on healthy rangelands.
Details can be viewed at the BLM website.
