THIS WEEKEND: Organizing for America to Hold More than 200 Volunteer Trainings across the Country
Unprecedented Day of Trainings Are Part of OFA’s Continued Effort to Provide Volunteers Skills To Bring About Change In Their Local Community
Washington, DC – This weekend, Organizing for America (OFA), a grassroots project of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), will hold more than 200 trainings with volunteers and community organizers across the country, including in Nevada, to continue building on the change that America voted for in the historic 2008 election. Nevada trainings are scheduled in Pahrump, Elko, and Yerington.
These trainings will be an opportunity for volunteers, Neighborhood Team Members (NTM) and Community Organizers (CO) to acquire the skills needed to strengthen support for health insurance reform in their local community as the Senate continues to debate their version of the bill. Volunteer leaders like these were crucial in last year’s election and continue to be an integral part of OFA’s ongoing efforts to support the President’s agenda for change. Among other important skills, attendees will learn how to integrate grassroots organizing, online social media and data tracking into an efficient mobilization tool for building support around President Obama’s policy agenda.
“OFA volunteers are the backbone of our organization,” said OFA Nevada state director Jennifer López. “Organizing for America has developed these trainings to engage and empower volunteer leaders throughout Nevada. These training are part of building our momentum on the ground — strengthening our community in every part of the Silver State by bringing volunteers together, learning and sharing best practices, and refining our plan to move forward.”
As we near the finish line on health insurance reform, mobilization around health insurance reform will be the focal point of the weekend’s workshops.
Organizing for America is committed to supporting President Obama’s agenda for change at the grassroots level. Since June 6th, more than 2.3 million people have taken part in OFA’s health reform campaign and have organized over 23,000 events in all 50 states and every congressional district in support of health insurance reform. On October 20, OFA helped to generate more than 315,000 calls to Congress in a single day, over three times the initial goal.
