The Twittering Senators

Senators Arlen Specter (D-PA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have been tweeting each other on Twitter.

Their latest Twit-fight came Friday.

Arlen SpecterIt started around 1:00 p.m. ET when@SenArlenSpecter tweeted, “Called Senator Grassley to tell him to stop spreading myths about health care reform and imaginary ‘death panels.’” This was followed up with “Had to leave a message — for now. I will talk to him soon.”

To which Grassley responded:

@ChuckGrassley was quick to Chuck Grassleyrespond: “Specter got it all wrong that I ever used words ‘death boards’. Even liberal press never accused me of that. So change ur last Tweet Arlen.”

I suppose this is a demonstration of bipartisan chatter.

The back-and-forth was sparked by Grassley’s remark at a town hall in Iowa earlier this week, when the Senator told the audience: “We should not have a government program that determines if you’re going to pull the plug on Grandma.” Grassley did not use the term “death boards” or “death panels.” Guess Grassley isn’t a Palin follower.

Currently, Specter has slightly over 4,000 followers on his Twitter account and Grassley has more than 15,000 followers.

I don’t know how many people follow Nevada’s Senators, Harry Reid or John Ensign.

A number of people in Congress do Twitter. Twittering is an easy means of remaining in communication. Only problem is twittering in public view can cause a problem. It would be like yakking in an open microphone.

Anyway, at least we know of two Senators who talk with each other. That may be a step forward.
