Desert Beacon has written a very insightful post from which I and many others can better understand the fervor with which many are combating change in healthcare. An Arkansas lady, critical of proposals for health care reform, told an audience at a town hall meeting that she “wanted her America” back.
DB explains, “No one is going to ‘Give Her America Back,’ frankly because it hasn’t existed for the last 60 years. Schools are legally integrated, a growing proportion of the population has Spanish surnames, ‘Father Knows Best’ is no longer on the air, and women are making gains from the shop floor to the board rooms. However, if she learns to articulate her fears and to engage in civil discourse, perhaps she can earn the respect of those with whom she fundamentally disagrees. One can hope this will make her feel better.”
And DB is absolutely correct.
