Heller Won’t Challenge Reid
Nevada Senator Harry Reid has dodged a difficult potential challenger. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has confirmed that Congressman Dean Heller has decided not to run against the Senate Majority Leader next year. Heller, in his second term representing Nevada’s Second Congressional District, reportedly notified NRSC Chairman, Texas Senator John Cornyn, of the news today. In a statement released this afternoon, Senator Reid said Heller “has served Nevada well in his years of public service as secretary of state and in Congress…and will continue to be in an important position for Nevada.” Reid went on to say “Our families have been friends for many years, and regardless of his decision, that wouldn’t have changed.” Heller’s decision comes just days after former Nevada secretary of state candidate Danny Tarkanian announced his intention to challenge Reid for the Senate next year.
