The Progressive Change Committee issued this statement via e-mail:
On Friday, we announced a TV ad targeting Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) for undermining President Obama’s public health insurance option while taking campaign cash from insurance interests that oppose reform.
Big news. Ben Nelson responded. And his response wasn’t pretty.
Nelson had the audacity to say that if grassroots groups continue to run ads against him “then health care reform may be dead by the end of August.” Nelson actually threatened to kill health care reform for millions of Americans because of…his own bruised ego.
Well, we’re not playing that game, Senator. That’s not how a democracy works. And bold progressives don’t cave to intimidation from corporate Democrats.
Huffington Post had this to say about the charges against Nelson:
In a statement issued late in the afternoon by Nelson’s office, spokesman Jake Thompson warned that if the new series of ads calling out the Senator’s “stalling” on reform were “an indication of the politics going into August, then health care reform may be dead by the end of August.”
Progressive Change Campaign Committee, in alliance with Democracy for America will have none of Senator Nelson’s threats and are striking back with the above ad. The accuse Nelson of taking $2,214,715 from special interest groups.
You can decide for yourself whether the charges against Nelson have merit on OpenSecrets.
Ordinary people and bloggers are beginning to revolt against members of Congress for taking big corporate money and voting in favor of their corporate money sources to the detriment of their constituents and ordinary Americans.
Reno and Its Discontents, a high profile Nevada blogger, right here in Nevada, is rising up against legislators who work for insurance corporations rather than their constituents and ordinary people. Reno and Its Discontents is calling on other bloggers to join in the rebellion. She urges:
Bloggers–go to FireDogLake and sign up to help with their Whip operation. It’s making a difference. And while you’re at it, sign on to Health Care Can’t Wait’s petition asking Senators to stop delaying health care reform.
Crooks and Liars wrote:
Ben Nelson’s “ response was to cry, stomp his feet and declare that health care reform will be killed if Americans stand up and demand that he be part of the solution.”
If you wish to join in the rebellion you can right here. It is the site for Health Care Can’t Wait – Don’t Stall Reform. We Can’t Afford to Wait.
Maybe people are beginning to wise up and start looking out for their own interests. Lord knows it is about time. Perhaps ordinary Americans are starting to understand that their interests in their government are controlled by them rather than Senators in Congress. All they have to do is stand up, join together, and raise hell. If people want a public option of single-payer health care they can get it—irrespective of members of Congress or the healthcare industry.
