Here is how the vote of the Republicans went on the Sotomayor vote for her elevation to the United States Supreme Court.
The clerk called out the name of
Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.). “No by proxy,” responded Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.)? “No by proxy,” said Sessions.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.)? “No by proxy,” said Sessions.
Kyl, Cornyn and Coburn didn’t have enough respect to appear and vote in person.
Not a very bright move by the Republican Party. They’re going to need the Hispanic vote to win elections. This kind of snub isn’t going to help. Republican Senator Lindsay Graham was the sole Republican vote for Sotomayor. [Washington Post]
The National Council of La Raza is not too pleased that top Republican leaders turned down invitations to speak at the group’s national meeting:
This one won’t help the GOP’s minority outreach efforts.
The National Council of La Raza, a top Latino civil rights group, is taking a shot at RNC chair Michael Steele and several prominent GOP figures for skipping its ongoing annual conference, saying it raises questions about the GOP’s interest in wooing Latinos.
NCLR spokesperson Marie Watteau confirms to me that Steele, along with three Republican governors, were all invited to its conference, which is concluding today with a big speech by DNC chair Tim Kaine. But Steele and the three governors — Mississippi’s Haley Barbour, Minnesota’s Tim Pawlenty, and Puerto Rico’s Luis Fortuno — all declined the invitations through the RNC, Watteau says.
Yep, the Republican Party knows how to cut off it’s nose to spite it’s face. George Bush even snubbed the NAACP when he was running President. Republicans just don’t like Hispanics or Blacks.

Come on Jack you know better than your title; Don’t you? Republicans do not hate Blacks and Latinas we just do not like liars and racists and that whta Sotomayor is. If a white male had said, not once but five times, that he would make better decisions than a Latina he would have been castigated and you know it, but I guess the hypocracy of the Dems know no bounds.
I think that you missed the mark on this one or you meant to. One last thing, most conservatives I know are not looking for Latino votes or Black votes they are just looking for American votes no matter what color their skin is. The Dems ought to get into the 21st century and stop the race and wealth baiting. How about we unite under one flag, one language and one constitution.
I didn’t write that Republicans hated Blacks and Latinas. I wrote they disliked them. I fail to see how you find Sotomayor as a liar or racist. It is supposition what the reaction would be to a white male Supreme Court nominee saying he could make better decisions than a Latina would be. I stand by what I wrote.
