Republican Senatorial Candidate Bill Parson
Senatorial candidate, Republican Bill Parson, was in Pahrump, Nevada July 24 and held a “town hall meeting” at the Pahrump Community Library.
No more than 30 persons were present, reported the Pahrump Mirror. A strange place to hold a town hall meeting, even in Pahrump.
According to the Mirror Parson quit his job at the Nevada Test Site so he could “focus on what he feels are the needs of Nevada concerning governmental influence.”
He is quoted as saying “I’m a strict constitutionalist. The federal government has slowly taken our freedoms.” Methinks Mr. Parsons may be running a bit late. Our freedoms were being taken, and not too slowly, under the George Bush – Dick Cheney regime and the Republican controlled Congress.
He, like all Republicans, wants a smaller federal government, which he sees as conforming with his “strict interpretation” of the Constitution. He is a “strong supporter” of the Second Amendment not believing a license should be required to carry a gun. He considers that an infringement of his civil rights. He said he intends to “ask someone when I get to Washington why they are infringing on my rights.”
The Mirror reported “The audience, which dwindled considerably at the mention of the attacks on September 11th being an ‘inside job’ by a woman in the audience, was made up considerably of those belonging to political groups in Pahrump. “Many stood up and complained to Parson that their local government was not responding to them.”
Parson didn’t respond to them either. “[W]e need a revolution of spirit, the freedom of speech has been significantly curtailed in this country.” We may need a revolution of spirit, but I fail to see that freedom of speech has been “significantly curtailed.’ Fact is there are at least tens of thousands of blogs, numerous radio talk shows, more than enough TV talk shows, and countless more emails flowing around. Sounds like free speech to me.
He says he will not serve as Nevada’s Senator for more than two terms. But I doubt that will permit him enough time to accomplish his stated goal of abolishing the IRS and the 16th Amendment (that is the Amendment permitting the federal government to collect income taxes.)
He said he has $40,000 of his savings to run on, but recognizes he will need a lot more to compete with the $12 million he says Senator Harry Reid has. He hit the attendees up for campaign contributions–the Mirror didn’t report anycontributions were tendered to Parson.
Acknowledging that Nevada ranks 44 out of 50 in the area of Education, Parson was adamant that money isn’t the solution to the Education problem. He does not think paying teachers more is the answer either. Parson’s wife is a math teacher in the Clark County school district. Parson’s solution was “Let’s look at the teachers who seem to be getting results and see what they’re doing.”
As to abortion, voting practices, and the proposed train to Victorville Parson “feels these are matters best left to the state to decide.”
When asked why he was running for the Senate he said Harry Reid “is a bald faced liar, a deceiver” and later “We need to get back to the Constitution.
I’ll go out on a limb and predict Mr. Parson will fold up his campaign before the primary election. He doesn’t present any kind of platform that offers anything new to the voters. He doesn’t have and will never raise enough money to finance an effective campaign. He sounds like what bloggers call a “wing nut.” He’d be better served to forget politics and go home and help his wife in her teaching career or housework. Keep his $40,000, he’s going to need it as he gets older.
But, I have to hand it to him. He is still better than most. He has the courage of his convictions and apparently isn’t bashful about expressing them. It will, at least, keep him out of bars, casinos and poolhalls.

Dear Editor,
Has anyone bothered to ask Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid why the US
Constitution was changed to have Prohibition? ObamaCare is
Unconstitutional and they both Voted for it! Can Pelosi and Reid explain
why it was necessary to pass the 18th Amendment baning the
manufacture, sale and transportation of intoxicating liquors? If the
Government can constitutionally use the the concept of promoting our
“General Welfare” to force us to purchase health insurance, with the threat
of fines and jail why did previous elected officials feel the 18th
amendment was even necessary? Answer that Nancy and Harry!
Sincerely,
Joseph DuPont
