Last Monday I had the distinct pleasure of participating in a Nevada Center for Public Policy Dialogue (NCPPD) training session here in Pahrump, held on the Great Basin College facility on East Basin.
I had been invited to attend by Carolene Endersby and I am very glad I accepted that invitation. There were a number of people there, a few I knew personally, most I did not, though I recognized their names from reading the newspapers. It was a friendly group.
I don’t know much about the Nevada Center for Public Policy Dialogue but I intend to learn much more in the weeks ahead. Some weeks ago I wrote about Great Basic College being a Pahrump Treasure. NCPPD is affiliated with Great Basin. I can readily see that NCPPD is a valuable segment of that Pahrump Treasure.
The purpose of the training session was to get some hands on learning about how to conduct meaningful forums in the community to discuss, analyze and seek consensus on community issues.
The approach taken was a systematic process in which everyone could participate and give voice to the diverse viewpoints of each individual on issues. That gave rise to broad array of views from many backgrounds of experience and knowledge.
The NCPPD is destined to be a terrific asset to the community of Pahrump.
As I learn more I plan to share my new knowledge here on this blog.
You can learn something now about the community forum technique on National Issues Forums. It is always good to learn something new.

Thanks Jack. Glad that you could attend our Training Session. The NCPPD will host a Community Workshop – “Democracy’s Challenge: Reclaiming the Public’s Role”. It will be held at Great Basin College on Friday and Saturday Aug. 7 and 8. This unique Workshop will provide participants an opportunity to engage in advancing the common good by seeking a shared understanding of a problem or issue, and to search for common ground for action. Please call GBC at 775-727-1026 for further information or to register to attend.
Thank you, Carolene, for the comment. I have a scheduling conflict, which may or may not evaporate in time to attend the Workshop. It the conflict clears I will attend. I think it is an excellent opportunity for me to learn something of value. The whole concept is new to me.
