Nevada 2nd most dysfunctional state
A national political Web site ranked Nevada the second most dysfunctional state for governing and politics. [Reno Gazette Journal]
That national political web site is National Journal Online. Here are some excerpts:
Leadership Problems: 10
Imagine that, leadership problems. Of course the main focus of the Nation Journal’s leadership evaluation centers on Governor Jim Gibbons, with honorable mention to Senator John Ensign.
Criminality: 7
Nevada scored rather high in criminality. Here the Journal cites Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki (R) charged with felony counts of misappropriation and falsification of accounts by a public officer and two felony counts of misappropriation by a treasurer, stemming from a 2007 audit of a college savings program run by the state treasurer’s office during his tenure there.
Statewide Challenges: 7
A collapsing housing market, the recession has hit Nevada hard. Unemployment sixth-highest in the nation.
Media Circus: 7
Gibbons’ travails have attracted wide media attention statewide, but Las Vegas isn’t a major media hub, so few Americans outside the region have heard of him. The revelations about Ensign’s affair, which got more media traction nationally, did nothing to put the state’s politicians in a better light.

What does this say about the NevaDUH voters, the political system as it exists here, and other immaterial thingys like reporting campaign contributions properly? Goober and Enstench are minor problems compared to the tons of money moved around here with no oversight whatsoever by the state.

Who knows why Nevada voters do what they do? Why don’t you run for Governor of Nevada Tex?
Well…this week I have a toothache and next week is totally devoted to clipping my nose hair but the week after is open. So maybe then I’ll put a website up and post every month or so about how I can save the world… You available for Campaign Mangler?

If it is a “Campaign Mangler” you need I might just be your man. Think we can save the world together?
“Saving the world” would be a novel approach as politics is all about power, money, women (men in Craig’s case), and repeat same ad infinitum.
What we really need is a third party as the other two aren’t worth saving.

You may be right Tex. Third Parties are hard to get going. Remember Ross Perot?
OK, I’ll give you a platform of “10 Points of Light”; If elected:
1. I will live in my own house, shut down the mansion, fire the servants, sell the jets, fire the pilots, sell the limos and fire the drivers.
2. I will travel coach class and stay in Motel Six and expect only the IRS approved rate mileage for my personal vehicle.
3. I will govern with an independent “Board of Directors” from many walks of business and just plain ‘ol people from all parties including independents.
4. It will take a 2/3 vote by both houses to pass or amend a law.
5. I will take no PAC money.
6. No one from Douglas County will serve me.
7. Non-elected office heads will come from within the departments and not be political appointees.
8. Any violation of any Nevada law will result in immediate suspension from their position.
9. I will run as an Independent – not beholding to any party.
10. I will not Tweet.

Sounds like a platform to me. When are you going to announce your candidacy?
I thought you were the campaign mangler here. I got a blogspot called “The Blog Party” today because I recognize the wide assortment of opinion in them and that they do affect the voting public. It’s time bloggers had a candidate and really became a force in shaping politics.

Blogger as a candidate? Not me. Been there–tried that. I’m still awaiting your announcement you are running. Why not go after Gibbons’ job?
