Pahrump Mother Charged With Murder
LAS VEGAS — An 18-year-old mother arrested after her baby was rushed to the hospital is charged with murder after the 2-month-old died.
The Nye County Sheriff’s Department said Bianca Razo-Pina is being held without bail.
Razo-Pina and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Efren Chavez, took the baby to Desert Springs Hospital Tuesday. Doctors said the child was in full cardiac arrest. A further examination revealed extensive brain injuries and bruises throughout her body.
The girl was in critical condition but died early Thursday morning. The couple were originally charged with child neglect. Police have not announced new charges against Chavez, saying only that Razo-Pina was responsible for the death. [Fox 5 News]

Obama’s Organizing for America comes to Pahrump
Last week President Barack Obama’s Organizing for America came to Pahrump. The OFA listening tour drew about 20 Democrats in Pahrump.
Jennifer Lopez, Nevada State Director for Organizing for America said “First and foremost, our listening tour is here to serve Nevada, to help bring our community together. As we all know, community mattered very much to the President when he was running for the campaign and we wanted to make sure that we continued that community outreach.”
“We worked very hard to elect a Democratic President who would speak on behalf of all of us. That was our first task. That was Organizing for America 1.0. Organizing for America 2.0 is the next step, the next generation. It’s the teachers edition that goes along with Barrack Obama’s agenda and gives us and gives you the tools to bring the President’s agenda from the White house into your neighborhood, into your community and into your life,” stated Sam Lieberman, Nevada State Democratic Chairman for the Nevada Democratic Party.
“Over the next year, we’re going to be focusing on issue organizing rather than specifically focusing on candidates work. We will be hiring staff in all fifty states by the end of the year. We will be recruiting volunteer organizers to cover the states and rebuilding the neighborhood teams,” said Evan Sutton, Nevada Field Director for Organizing for America.

Email claims US died Nov 4, 2008
The following is from a e-mail circulating around. Just so everyone knows that the anti-Obama people are still around and working:
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the Presidential election:
· Number of States won
· by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
· Square miles of land won
· by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
· Population of counties won
· by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
· Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won
· by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2..1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare….”
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal’s and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years. If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.
If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Dan Schinhofen is candidate for Nye County Commissioner
My colleague, Dan Schinhofen, a columnist in the Pahrump Mirror has announced he is a candidate for election to the Nye County Board of Commissioners. [Pahrump Mirror, July 23, 2009, page 1]
Dan is a Republican and resident of Pahrump. He plans to run to be the County Commissioner for district 5. The seat is currently occupied by Fely Quitevis, another Republican, who was appointed by Republican Governor Jim Gibbons to complete the term of former Republican Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos, who is awaiting sentencing following his conviction in which “The jury found Liakopoulos guilty of felony bribery and misdemeanor counts of offering a reward for an appointment and graft by a public officer.”
Dan is a former Nye County Regional Planning Commissioner. The Mirror reported Schinhofen says “He won’t be running on a particular political platform, instead he believes he will bring a sense of fairness and honesty to the role of commissioner….”
“I didn’t move from Vegas to make Pahrump like Vegas. I moved here for what it is, not to try to change it. I like where I moved to.”
Dan writes a weekly column in the Pahrump Mirror called Ramblings of a Madman. He has written two books “The Moses Stern Chronicles Vol I” and “The Ramblings of a Madman Anthology,” published by Robert’s Inadvertent Publishing.

Exploring the Moon via Google Earth
A pause from blogging about politics. How about a bit of learning about the moon and all that wonderful technology that allows us to see it on blogs and YouTube?
