Muth’s plan for resurrection of the Nevada GOP

Chuck Muth is a professional political consultant. You can find out more about his extensive political background on Muth’s Truths.

He is also a heavyweight blogger. A real conservative and no ally of the Democratic Party. He detests taxes of any kind.

Today, on Muth’s Truths he lays out a vision he has about electing Republicans to high political offices.

Muth acknowledges “Republicans in Nevada are beaten, despondent and pretty much worthless as an opposition party – especially in the Legislature.” [Muth's Truths]

He laments “Democrats gleefully cheer the party’s fallen fortunes and write obituaries in  letters-to-the-editor almost every day. The GOP, they declare, is as dead as Yucca Mountain.”

But, he feels the GOP is “laying the foundation for a comeback in 2010.” Admitting it is a “longshot” he believes the GOP can pull it off.

He says it starts with Dean Heller running for the U.S. Senate against Senator Harry Reid.

He sees “momentum and enthusiasm” building for Heller to run, noting that Heller hasn’t said he won’t.

“Two facts are working in the GOP’s favor,” Muth writes.

First, that Obama’s popularity will wane by the 2010 election.

Second, “nobody likes Harry Reid” not even Democrats, he says.

Muth thinks Heller could take Reid out.

Muth asks, “If Heller runs for the Senate, what other quality candidates might be emboldened to consider other races?” Referring to the Governor’s office.

Governor Jim Gibbons days are over and everyone knows it except the Governor, according to Muth. Indeed, he says, “certain ‘powers that be’ will walk over to the Governor’s Mansion (when Dawn’s not home) and ” tell him to “Get out.” And he will, thinks Muth.

But there is a problem. Mike Montandon and Joe Heck have announced they will run for Governor, but that are leaving “Republican activists” with a yawn.

Republicans in Nevada and Washington, D.C. are looking for an alternative, who Muth says is Federal district judge Brian Sandoval.

In summary, then, Muth reasons, “So follow the line here. Heller runs for Senate. Gibbons is persuaded to run for the hills. Sandoval runs for governor. Joe Heck reverses course at Heller’s request and runs against Rep. Dina Titus. Mike Montandon, who has a track record of winning in a hugely Democratic district, decides to run against Rep. Shelley Berkley.”

With a “few breaks” things will go the GOP’s way, Muth dreams.

Suppose the Democratic Party maps out ideas like that? I don’t know. But if, and it is a big “but if” Muth is right the fallout for Democrats would be:

1. Senator Reid would be replaced by Dean Heller.
2. Governor Gibbons would be replaced by Brian Sandoval.
3. Dina Titus would be replaced by Joe Heck.
4. Shelley Berkley would be ousted by Mike Montandon.

Nevada would lose about all it’s clout. Just shows to go you that if Democrats want to continue turning Nevada a darker shade of blue, they will need to really get it together, particularly in the rurals.

Think Nye County is up to it? I don’t think so at this moment, unless we coalese all the 9,400 Nye County Democrats and add to that total a couple of thousand more.
