Congress in dither over Gitmo inmates in US

President Obama appears to be on the verge of moving  some Guantanamo inmates into the United States placing them in “super-max federal prisons.”

Members of Congress aren’t too keen on the idea. They’re worried about what their constituents might say or do on election day.

Harry Reid took a hardline against the relocation of terrorists now being held at Gitmo to prisons inside the United States. [The Weekly Standard]

Reid later retreated from his opposition indicating he might go along with it sometime in the future. (Probably meaning after the 2010 election) After all Reid wouldn’t want to anger Obama who will be in Las Vegas next week for a fundraiser to help Reid’s re-election campaign.

Considering Pahrump and the new prison about to be built here I won’t be surprised if a rumor doesn’t start that some of those Gitmo might be housed in the new federal prison. They won’t, it isn’t a super-max facility.
