Cindy Trigg votes to increase length of student drug testing

Cindy Trigg, a member of the Douglas County School Board, joined in a unanimous vote of the school board to implement a full calendar-year drug testing program rather than a seasonal one.

The change in the policy is venturing into a gray legal area, Assistant Superintendent Nancy Bryant told board members. The U.S. Supreme Court has only ruled on the constitutionality of testing students while they’re engaged in extracurricular activities. [Record Courier]

Trigg is a candidate for election to Nevada’s Congressional District #2 in the United States Congress. She is competing for the election with Nye County Democrat Paul Reeves of Pahrump.

First – let’s recognize this for what it is – a desperate grandstand play by Trigg at the expense of youngsters in her quite failing bid for Dean Heller’s seat.

What an absolutely foolish, reckless, DISCRIMINATORY, and probably expensive thing to do as it only covers kids in “extracirricular” activites.

If there is that great of a drug problem in Douglas schools, then why not test ALL students in a wider net – not just those that are trying to bring a little pride and accomplisment to their schools? Are we going to drug test 4-H, FFA, the debate team, and Junior Achievement, and the pom-pom squad?

And why not also test the Faculty, SCHOOL BOARD, bus drivers, food preparers, and everyone else who has the “safety” of these kids in their hands? And how about – in the same spirit of “safety” – we do breathalyzers and metal detectors for all those attending extracurricular events?

The net result of this HIGHLY DISCRMINATORY policy set by Trigg et. al will be more kids pulling out of activities as they will be subjected to a SUBJECTIVE drug test with parents probably having to hire lawyers and other experts just to defend their kids that want to play ball or march in a band. The real druggies will still be out there.
